What’s TRUST got to do with it? Face it, even your computer has issues with trust…”if this is a website you trust…”
You may have noticed I have a tendency to be a thinker (ok! sometimes an overthinker). It is how I am wired to take in the bigger picture and then filter down, through (and toss out some of) the details. It is how I process and filter and contrast and compare . And it often takes time.
Trust is a major life issue. How we determine who to trust and to what extent depends on our experiences and our own understanding, right? and honestly….my preconceived level(s) of disappointment with “your type” and vise versa, right?
In this article Trust (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy) recognizes that Trust is important and dangerous (huh?!). Since trust involves risk, it can also be dangerous. paulenglish.com/trust.html Oh, my achy~overthinky brain!
We are all born in the same way: naked, trusting and needy. When those basic needs are met children survive and become mostly adequate (but still often needy) adults. Thriving requires a bit more, but it can be done! Sometimes Life happens, hiccups have a way of wobbling the trust factor. Trusting people can be sticky business. We’re messy. We change our minds. We hurt. We hurt others. We become busy or thoughtless. So what to do? He says “Trust Me“.
1. Do not trust in your own understanding….major good advice. My understanding (and yours) comes from real life experiences. Comparing GOD’s nature to that of the mail carrier who kicked your dog is tacky and tasteless. God would never kick your dog no matter how irritating and annoying the little bugger is.
Proverbs 3:5 (New International Version)
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
2.Do not trust in your own understanding of the nature of true trust and trustworthiness . Because your great-uncle left you at the store (aka forgot you) and you haven’t trusted men for 25 years has nothing to do with the nature or being of God.
There is only One who is consistent and therefore worthy of Trust.
8, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.
He sets the standard. In black and white. Easy. Traits, fruit, character. Consistency.What to look for. What to work towards myself.
The Flowering of Faith :Trust
Because “He Promises to work all things together for good, according to His plan, to those who love Him “ I am honest enough that you already know I don’t have all the answers, oh heck, I have more questions than answers! But it’s ok. Really. I know that I know The One who has it all wrapped up. I Trust Him just as He has asked me to. His track record speaks. He says “Trust Me“. He does not say Trust me and you will never be… wait for it….hurt or disappointed…. He says “Trust Me and I will work it together for MY (kingdom) good”, which is better than I could ever deserve or hope for.
I am choosing to make room. Help me to get out of my own way.
I am choosing to cultivate Trust….perhaps even with you.
What’s trust got to do with it?…Because God is Faithful I will trust in Him always for His Promises.
