Pulling out a truly transparent hopefully still humorous ‘head-shaking-those were NOT-the-days’ true story as my beloved and I journey to his daughter and son-in-law’s first Thanksgiving feast for family.

One Thanksgiving, long ago and far away, I  found myself  in the kitchen. Yes. Tis true.  Everything planned, prepared and under control.

Moving to a large  two-story rental  home meant plenty of room for the family for a holiday meal.

The FIRST major, traditional  holiday meal prepared in our  home. By mine own hands.  Brilliant. No worries. No pressure!

The  arrival of one Mother In Law, one Mother,  one  Father. No pressure.  Five present and accounted for. Let the festivities begin.

Opening the oven to the lovely sensations of a delectable pan roasted turkey . Large, juicy, painstakingly basted, perfectly stuffed….and on fire.

Early days.

Who knew that lovely creation was combustible?

    1. Alas, Susan after living through so many seasons myself 😉 there’s been some of the same. Oven break downs, power outages (so cold we all sat in mittens & wooly caps round the very small fireplace shivering, eating & watching our breathe in the air!), still frozen turkey(s)… Some of THE BEST memories, now, don’t you think? 🙂 (at least good story stuff!) Thanks for stopping by.

Blessings to you and Yours this Season of Thanks.

  1. Your post made me smile. One year I thought the turkey would be done after church – – but I forgot to turn on the oven. Another year, I got the flue and my mother in law ended up coming over and cooking for me.
